Buying a new mattress is no small thing.  Depending on the brand name, mattresses can cost from $200 to $2000.  Some people are willing to spend thousands of dollars on them in order to pamper themselves at night.  Anyhow, a good and restful sleep at night does really matter.

Whether you spent hundreds or thousands of dollars, you surely want to protect your investment.  In order to keep your mattresses clean and in good condition for a long period of time, here are some ways you can do:

ü  Follow the maintenance rules.  – As you may have spent considerable amount of money on your mattress, you probably want to protect as much as you can.  The primary thing you can do is get a pad or cover with it.  This will protect your mattress from wearing out quickly.

ü  Flip your mattress periodically.  – Common problem with mattresses is that one side is worn out while the other still looks good.  This is because of failing to flip the mattress from time to time.  Flipping the mattress periodically can lengthen the life of your mattress at least twice.

ü  Clean out stains immediately.  – No matter how you protect your mattress, there will come a time that it will be stained due to perspiration and some other liquid.  Deal with the stain by cleaning it right away.  Do not allow the stain to set in permanently for it will only take much longer to remove.  The other reason is to prevent mold from forming inside the mattress.  Also, never scrub the mattress for it will only allow the stain to set in deeply.  Also avoid using harsh chemicals as much as possible.

ü  Buy a mattress topper.  – If you are type of person who loves to eat or drink in bed, you can protect your mattress from liquid spills with heated mattress pads as topper.  A heated mattress pad will have a dual purpose for this one – as a mattress protector and as a bed warmer.  It will protect the spills from directly seeping into the mattress.  And we all know that our body needs a warm bed to sleep at in order to relax tired muscles.  These heated mattress pads can save you from buying another item for your bedroom or you no longer need to buy a mattress topper which has only one purpose.

ü  Vacuum your mattress occasionally.  –   Do not solely rely on the mattress topper.  Occasionally, use a vacuum to remove dust and allergens.  Despite having a mattress topper, it is inevitable for dust to set in if not have been cleaned for a long period of time.

Take good care of your mattress by protecting it from being worn-out in just a short period of time.  These small ways, when followed can help you save that big amount you’ve invested.
